I am Groot!

Your valley is East West oriented. So we have a South slope and a North slope.

In the North slope the most common trees are beeches and chestnut.

Last autumn, plenty of beechnuts felt, so many young trees are growing now. The two first leaves have butterfly wings shape.

If these trees survive several centuries, they will become like the Beech of St Jammes nearby in our Black Mountain too.

Like Groot, which means “big/tall” in Dutch.

Géant junior

Notre vallée du Sant est orientée Est-Ouest. Il y a donc un versant exposé au Nord, l’ubac, et un versant exposé au Sud, l’adret.
Sur l’ubac, les hêtres et les châtaigniers dominent.

Cet automne la fainée (du nom de la faîne, fruit du hêtre) a été abondante. Il y a donc de nombreuses petites plantules qui poussent. Les deux premières feuilles ont une forme comparable à des ailes de papillons.

S’il survit quelques siècles ce petit arbre deviendra un Vénérable, comme le magnifique Hêtre de Saint-Jammes que l’on trouve aussi dans notre Montagne Noire.

Salon déco Vintage

Trop occupés par nos travaux de restauration de la ferme, nous n’avons pas pu bricoler beaucoup ces derniers temps, ni aller chiner.

Mais la saison va reprendre et commence particulièrement bien avec le salon Vintage d’Albi.

Pour tous les passionnés des 60’s et 70’s, ce sera : the place to be !

Cucumber taste

Sanguisorba minor, the salad burnet (or garden burnet, small burnet, burnet), is a perennial herbaceous plant in the family Rosaceae. The form of its leaves makes it easy to help identifying the plant.

It has very peculiar flowers, female ones (with red stigma), males (with yellow anthera) and flowers males and females as well.

This plant is drought-tolerant, and grows all year around.

It is used as an ingredient in both salads and dressings, having a flavor described as "light cucumber". Typically, the youngest leaves are used, as they tend to become bitter as they age. It has the same medicinal qualities as medicinal burnet (Sanguisorba officinalis). It was used as a tea to relieve diarrhea in the past.

It also has a respectable history, called a favorite herb by Francis Bacon, and was brought to the New World with the first English colonists, even getting special mention by Thomas Jefferson.
